Cyberstar (and the related CyberVision) was, in effect, the nervous system of a ShowBiz showroom — an early integrated multimedia show-control platform. It reportedly brought together the elements that made a show feel alive:

  • multichannel audio,
  • show-programming information,
  • video playback and monitors,
  • animatronic performance,
  • lighting, and
  • synchronized showroom entertainment.

Paul worked closely on this with Dave Philipsen. Taken together, Cyberstar represents exactly the kind of systems thinking that runs through Paul’s whole career: not one clever device, but many subsystems made to perform as a single, repeatable experience.

Status of this story

The precise development history of Cyberstar and CyberVision — dates, versions, and the division of work — is still being reconstructed. This page will be expanded as original documentation and Paul’s own account are recorded.
